About Us
Silver State Striders is northern Nevada’s oldest and most active running
club. The Striders were founded in the late 1970s by a number of running
and fitness enthusiasts who were part of the nation’s first running boom.
Since that time, the Striders have been dedicated to the principle of
"promoting a healthier community through running, racing, jogging and walking
for all abilities." This has included the organization of one of the
nation’s top youth running and track and field programs, the Silver State
Junior Striders, formation of numerous local running events, such as the
Silver State 50/50 endurance runs
and the "You’ve Gotta Be Crazy" fun run
in Verdi, as well as regular training/social gatherings for area runners,
joggers, walkers and triathletes. The Striders are a family-oriented club,
with age group racing teams for all desire and ability levels.
Strider members also serve as the backbone for many local running, walking
and triathlon events, either as competitors or in volunteering their time
and expertise in ensuring that these events are run smoothly and safely.
Club membership includes a free monthly newsletter. The club’s website
includes downloadable race applications as well as one of the area’s most
complete running and racing calendars. For a membership application, click
